Pureed
Semi-Solid Foods |
| |
Here
are some recipes I like to share for making pureed semi- solid
foods for your little ones when they are just starting out
on semi- solids. These are pureed food which I have tried
and my daughter then, liked. If your child has strong reactions
to certain food types or has eczema, please take precaution
when introducing the foods. It would be advisable to consult
your family physician before trying any of these as individuals
vary.
Procedure of
preparation: |
| |
1. |
Boil
or steam sweet potatoes ( the japanese purple ones are really
nice ) – about 20 minutes |
| |
2. |
Peel them
and then cut into smaller pieces to put into a food processor
| |
3. |
Pour in
a little breast milk or water ( whatever nutritious liquid
you desire )
| |
4. |
Process
till creamy textured |
| |
5. |
Add more
water if you want it more gravy like.
| |
| |
For the same method
of preparation, you can try the following list of foods: |
| |
1. |
Carrots
with potatoes ( add cheese later on if no allergies )
| |
2. |
Spinach
( just the leaves ) and avocado |
| |
3. |
Pumpkin
( butternut that is shaped like a pear is nicer than the round
ones ) |
| |
4. |
Apples
| |
5. |
Papaya
and milk |
| |
6. |
Pear (
not too friendly to new and little tummies ) |
| |
7. |
Bananas
( Indian type form market rather than the Del Monte ones from
supermarkets )
| |
| |
Some tips to consider: |
| |
Rule
of thumb when trying out foods is that you stick to one food
per week or more to see if there are any allergies –
eg. red rashes around the mouth is most telling. |
| |
Also
their intestines and tummies are new and little – portion
your feed appropriately and also read up on the various fruits
before you try them for your little ones |
| |
Once
they are alright with one food type, you move on to try the
next food type. Observe their stools as well for any indications
of indigestion or abnormalities. |
| |
If,
like my dd, who had no allergies at all, you can try other
fruits but avoid berries ( blueberries and strawberries as
they are highly allergenic )
